After the warnings in the 1950s and 1960s, the industry continued to spew out toxic gases during the 1970s. They were really going at it this period. During this time, a material called asbestos was used in the production of something called asbestos cement sheets, which were used as building cladding. Asbestos is an extremely dangerous and toxic material. Asbestos cement was also produced extensively here in Norway. In Slemmestad in Asker, there was a dedicated asbestos cement factory. It was shut down in 1978 because they discovered serious illnesses among the workers due to the asbestos in the cement sheets. During this time and since the early 1900s, amalgam was also used in dental fillings, which has been a topic of debate in the media for the past 20 years. This was discussed, among other things, in a documentary program in 2005. From 1950s and until 1970s, they were using all sorts of dangerous chemicals in everything. They had PCBs, brominated flame retardants, asbestos, amalga...

The environment and nature have been a concern for us humans for many years. In the United States of America, the world's first national park, Yellowstone, was established as early as 1872. In 1962, we got our first national park in Norway as well, namely Rondane National Park. During this time, people began to think about environmental conservation here too. For example, the Alta controversy became one of the most well-known. At the same time, scientists reportedly warned the world's oil industry that it would eventually go to hell for us humans if we continued to spew out such toxic gases, make money from it, and simply not give a damn about anything. In Norway. Norwegians have been protesting against power development ever since the first waterfalls were dammed up over 100 years ago, in the early 1900s. During this time, the industrial revolution was truly underway and may have already concluded in most countries, considering that the industrial revolution is said to have oc...

Howdy, y'all environmental activists!

Howdy, my name is Geir and I was born in 1987 in Norway. I'm autistic and have been extreamly passionate about and I also remember most things about the climate since I was around 2.5 years old. During the winter break in 1990, I remember it being extremely mild at the mountain cabin, about 1000 meters above sea level, with temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius. Personally, I have been affected health-wise by the climate since the late 90s and early 2000s. Especially after 2011, my health has taken a drastic dive. Climate is something that most of us are concerned about today, except maybe if you ask Trump and all of his supporters, but thankfully they are in the minority. In this blog, I will dedicate my time to discussing the environmental and climate challenges we face.
